Brigg Line Adventures – Spend a day in Brigg with us!

Wintery, windy, worth it… last time around our Brigg Line adventures took us to Cleethorpes. a seaside resort in North East Lincolnshire. You can find out why we have been adventuring down the Brigg Line here. Our second time on this trainline came a few weeks later (sadly still in winter!) where we travelled to Brigg itself. Where some of you might know Brigg is from the traditional folk song about the fair – think along the lines of Scarborough Fair… anyway back to the 21st Century and Brigg still offers plenty. Come along with us and find out how you can spend a morning in the town.

  • Walk to nearby Wrawby Windmill – just a short walk away from the town is this post mill, dating from the 18th Century. Once earmarked for demolition, it has been lovingly restored and it looks fantastic. This mill still opens on certain days such as Bank Holidays.
  • Check out the Ancholme Valley Way – sticking with the walking theme, something else you can do in Brigg is walk alongside the Old River Ancholme. It’s a great way to check out the rest of the town and not just the town centre. It’s something we would do again in the summer months, and this time we would walk much further down it.
  • Enjoy its independent shops and eateries – as with many Lincolnshire market towns, there is a great selection of stores and cafes. Sometimes the town also has a Farmer’s Market, selling much delicious local produce – and it being an excellent opportunity to support & shop local.
  • Brigg Garden Centre – this isn’t any ordinary garden centre; it’s the flagship store for British Garden Centres. This could easily be a day trip in itself, given the sheer size of it – there is so much to see and do here. We would recommend making a trip to Brigg Garden Centre at Christmas time – its Christmas decoration range is always spectacular every year!

All in all, Brigg is perfect if you are looking for a new place to visit for a morning or afternoon. From Monday 22nd May 2023, you will be able to visit Brigg during the morning via train, if you live in a variety of towns including Sheffield and Gainsborough. You can see the full train timetable on Northern Rail’s website.

In the meantime – join us again soon for our next Brigg Line adventure when we check out another market town on the line, Kirton Kindsey!
